"Mezzo-soprano Jessica Bowers and guitarist Oren Fader are to be commended just for helping to expand the art-song catalogue to include a relatively uncommon combination of instruments.

Fader’s guitar-playing immediately stands out. The use of classical guitar lends a distinctive clarity when accompanying vocals, a quality that can be lost in harmonic murkiness on a piano. Fader brings deliberate energy and intensity to the songs. His articulate fingerpicking accentuates sparkling riffs and contributes subdued timbres as a counterbalance to Bowers’s penetrating vibrato. The mezzo-soprano’s initial intonation when attacking the consonants is precise and engaging...Bowers is exceptional at exuding charisma while interpreting the texts with emotional sensitivity for the songs’ subjects."

- Daniel J. Kushner, 2019 Opera News

"The full-bodied voice of mezzo soprano and commanding presence of Jessica Bowers presents Gaia as a complex figure of elegance"

- New York Theater Wire

“His scholarship, technique, and intelligent musicianship are plainly evident and the beauty of his tone is consistently compelling.”

- Guitar Review Magazine

Their ongoing mission is to promote new American art songs for mezzo and guitar, through commissions, performances, and recordings. To date, they have presented over 40 world premieres of works written for them. Since 2016, the Duo has presented their series, New American Art Songs for Mezzo and Guitar, three times each season in venues around New York City.

The Duo has been presented by Bar Harbor Music Festival, New York Classical Guitar Society, University of Indianapolis, Queens New Music Festival, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra School of Music, Classical Guitar Society of Northeastern Pennsylvania, and Lehigh University. They have been guest artists with Cygnus Ensemble, Taconic Music, Festival of New American Music, Poetica Musica, Composers Concordance, and Musical Chairs Ensemble.

In 2019, the Duo released their debut album, “Between Us All” (New Focus Recordings), a collection of songs written for them by Paul Salerni, David Claman, Scott Wheeler, and Tim Mukherjee. They can also be heard on “Der Weg ins Freie”, an album of music written by William Kentner Anderson (Furious Artisans). In 2021, Bridge Records will release the Duo's second album, "People, Places, and Pets",  featuring works written for them by Paul Salerni.

Outreach activities for the Duo include free concerts each year for the Lighthouse Guild for the Blind, and Beginnings, a social program for seniors supported by Renewal Care.
